Worship Service for the Week of April 26th, 2026
Scripture Texts: John 13-17
Sermon: The Great Betrayal
It was the night before Jesus was crucified, and all the disciples were leaning in to listen as their beloved rabbi taught them one last lesson. But suddenly something dramatic happened: Judas, one of their own number, abruptly got up and disappeared into the night. Why did Judas abandon Jesus, and what does his betrayal teach us about true Christian faith? This Sunday we continue our series on John 13-17 by looking at how the tragic example of Judas ironically reveals to us the heart of the gospel.

Discussion Questions
Icebreaker: What would you say is the most compelling thing about Jesus to you personally?
- In selling Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, Judas revealed that for him, Jesus was just a means to an end—a way of getting something that he ultimately loved more than Jesus. What are ways that Christians today tend to make Jesus a means to an end?
- What do we learn about Jesus from his response to Judas’ betrayal (see John 13:26-30)? What about to Peter’s betrayal (see John 21:1-19)?
- How has God used your suffering and failures to draw you closer to Him?
