Rona Reflections

In the last few weeks, the world has been in a spin. Everyone around the world has been, and still to this day, focused on the virus Convid-19. If you are anything like me, you are ready for all this to be done. You are ready for things to go back to normal, where you can interact with people like you would normally do. For the extroverts, you will be able to go out and gain energy from the people around you, and for the introverts, you can get your extroverted family members off your back trying to hang out with you every chance they have. For the workers without a job right now, you are ready to go back to work and do what you love…or…just make money. See, when our lives are different, our normal lives seem like the best thing ever. The routine we once thought was exhaustive is now what we dream of having back, if you are anything like me, of course. To be quite honest, some are enjoying this “break.” A break well needed, they would argue. For the ones that this is true for, enjoy it. Allow this to be a time of refreshing rest—a time to rejuvenate the body, mind, and soul. In the Psalms, there is a word through the book; this word is Selah. To be very honest with you, we do not know what the word actually means. It is debated from scholar to scholar, but no one can make a definitive answer as to what it means. The word seems to mean some form of pause or reflection. While you resters are resting, take a Selah why don’t you. Pause and reflect, meditate on God’s word, soak Him in. As a believer in Jesus Christ, it is hard for me to disconnect what is going on from God, leading me to ask questions like “Why would God allows this to happen?” or “Why doesn’t He end this now?” or “Isn’t He a miracle-working God? Why not now?” In some ways, I am going through mixed emotions. There is some anger, fear, loneliness, and doubt running through my mind and probably through yours as well. Guess what? It is okay to feel these feelings. As a matter of fact, I encourage you to feel those feelings but feel them with Christ. Yes, this sounds like the most Christian cliché thing to say and is way easier said than done, which I agree with, but it is some truth and comfort in this cliché. Walking with Christ does bring peace that is hard to comprehend as times. It is a peace of knowing that God is in control regardless of what life throws at you. For the ones like me who are having mixed emotions through this time; how about you lean into those feelings, being vulnerable to the Lord. Allow the Lord to teach you something new about Him, yourself, and the world around you. Spend time with the immediate family members you have right around you. Share, laugh, and love on one another. Call a friend, let them know that you are thinking about them, and not only that you love them but that Jesus loves them too. Same for you resters! As a reminder, let us remember the words from Paul which he wrote in the book of Philippians chapter 4 verses 8 and 9, which says, “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
